God’s Politics

Fishkite has a great post concerning Jim Wallis over at his blog.

Read it here.

If you don’t know who Jim Wallis is, he’s the founder of the special interest group Sojourners. He also wrote the book “God’s Politics: Why the Right Gets It Wrong, and The Left Doesn’t Get It.” He’s very fond of saying that God is not a Republican or a Democrat — but as Fishkite points out, it is clear that Wallis thinks God is a democrat, and that any person who claims to follow God will also be a democrat.

Read Fishkite’s post and tell me what you think.

IMHO, Fishkite’s assessment is truncated and doesn’t deal with the matters at hand — Wallis’ claims that the policies of the right may not always be the most “cut-and-dry” moral way for our nation.

I admire Wallis for standing up and having this conversation. He doesn’t accept things at face value. He is out there asking some important questions, bringing up some good points.

By the way, I think he’s still conservative on the big kahuna issue for Republicans, abortion.

(And, I might add, he is pretty hard on Democrats. You need to read his book.)

Steve, he’s only hard on Democrats for not being liberal enough. Mick’s point is accurate: Wallis pretends to be saying that God isn’t on either side, but a deeper examination makes it clear that he’s claiming God is on *his* side.
